Hearing-Aids Donation For People Of Chimbote City And Nearby Communities

August 14th through 19th, Chimbote Rotary Club, under "Live Rotary, change lives" motto, was accomplishing with the second phase of Rotary/Starkey "Gift of Hearing" Project called "SO THE WORLD MAY HEAR" which includes donation of hearing aids for the around 3000 beneficiaries from Chimbote and nearby communities who passed the first phase of the project that included the Ear Impression process for making molds of the ear canal. This project is carried out considering 5 Peruvian northern cities belonging to the 4465 Rotarian District: Iquitos, Chimbote, Trujillo, Piura and Chiclayo and will benefit 10468 people from all ages having the need to improve their hearing sense.

The project was made possible thanks to the partnership with Excelsior and Chanhassen Rotary Clubs from Minnesota-USA and the invaluable support of the STARKEY HEARING FOUNDATION which has donated all hearing aids and been in each of the 5 Peruvian cities -together with 36 health professionals from the USA in charge of their Coordinator Frederic Rondeau and led by its founder Williams Austin and his wife Tany-, providing hearing aids and setting them up properly for each person. This foundation carries out this type of aid in different parts of the world where poverty has presence and basically wherever people need to hear.

This project also considers donation of batteries, training on their use and monitoring activities that will be in charge of Chimbote Rotary Club, after this event. There were different kind of people who were helping out for this campaign to be held here in Chimbote such as members of Rotaract/Interact, medical professional, volunteers and good-hearted people who this way helped accomplishing the goal: "So The World May Hear" and thus contributing "So Humanity Is Underway".

DONACIÓN DE AUDÍFONOS PARA CHIMBOTE Y COMUNIDADES VECINAS

Del 14 al 19 de agosto el Club Rotary de Chimbote bajo el lema "Vive Rotary, Cambia Vidas" estuvo cumpliendo con la segunda fase del proyecto "Regalo de la Audición" Rotary/Starkey llamado "PARA QUE EL MUNDO PUEDA OIR", que incluye la donación de audífonos para alrededor de 3000 beneficiarios de Chimbote y comunidades vecinas quienes participaron en la primera fase del proyecto que incluía el proceso de Impresión del Oído para la elaboración de los moldes del canal del oído. Este proyecto se lleva a cabo considerando 5 ciudades del norte de Perú: Iquitos, Chimbote, Trujillo, Piura y Chiclayo y beneficiará a 10468 personas de todas las edades que tienen la necesidad de mejorar su sentido de la audición.

El profecto fue posible gracias a la alianza con los Clubs Rotary Excelsior y Chanhassen de Minnesota-USA y al invaluable apoyo de la FUNDACIÓN STARKEY PARA LA AUDICIÓN que ha donado todos los audífonos y ha estado en cada una de las 5 ciudades peruanas -junto con 36 profesionales de la salud de EE.UU. a cargo de su coordinador Frederic Rondeau y liderado su fundador Williams Austin y su esposa Tany-, proveyendo audífonos y configurándolos correctamente para cada paciente. Esta fundación lleva este tipo de ayuda a diferentes partes del mundo donde existe pobreza y básicamente donde las personas necesitas el regalo de la audición.

Este proyecto también considera la donación de baterías, capacitación sobre su uso y actividades de monitoreo a cargo del Club Rotary de Chimbote, después de este evento. Para que esta campaña se realice aquí en Chimbote se contó con el apoyo de miembros de Rotarac/Interact, profesionales médicos, voluntarios y gente de buen corazón quienes de esta manera ayudarón a cumplir el objetivo: "Para Que El Mundo Pueda Oír" y así colaboraron "Para Que la Humanidad Esté En Marcha".

Story of Jenny Rivera

Her name is Jenny Rivera, a lady of 52 years of age who lives in B-22 Luis Felipe de las Casas neighborhood in Nuevo Chimbote distric together with her three grandchildren: 3-year-old André, 5-year-old Carlos and 12-year-old Rudy. These kids' mom, Jenny's daughter, traveled abroad some years ago and since then they do not know anything about her, not even whether she is alive or dead. Their living condition is so sad since they live in a house made of estera that indeed requires to be repaired urgently. To get situation worse Jenny is sick. She deals with emotional diabetes, heart problems and hypertension but even so she washes clothing of others to make money since she is the only one who provides for the entire family.

Unfortunately kids are not attending school because of the lack of money. Even though here in Perú studying in a public school is for free, since no need to pay for tuition expenses, however students must pay for uniform, school suplies, extra curricular workshops, copies, and other fees. Some days ago, Nuevo Chimbote Municipality Social Programs sub-management head Cecilia Vásquez, Melissa Leming (American volunteer), Patricia Romero and me (Pablo Beltrán) visited Jenny's house to inquiere and confirm the real situation of the family.

They really need to be helped and in this context the Nuevo Chimbote Municipality is going to do its best in helping out to improve Jenny's house but more support is needed specially labor, esteras, sticks, plastic, etc. On the other hand, I have seen they also needs beds, matresses, blankets, etc. If you are willing to help this humble family, please, just do it. HISTORIA DE JENNY RIVERA

Su nombre es Jenny Rivera y tiene 52 años. Vive en el barrio San Felipe de las Casas B-22 en el distrito de Nuevo Chimbote junto con sus tres nietos: André (3 años), Carlos (5 años) y Rudy (12 años) cuya madre, hija de Jenny, hace unos años atrás viajó al extranjero pero hasta el día de hoy no saben nada de ella y si estará viva o no. Este familia vive en condiciones muy tristes ya que viven en una casa de estera que ciertamente necesita ser reparada urgentemente. Para empeorar la situación Jenny está enferma ya que tiene diabetes emotiva, problemas cardiacos, e hipertensión pero aún así lava ropa ajena para ganar dinero ya que ella es la única que provee para toda la familia.

Desafortunadamente los niños no pueden ir al colegio debido a la falta de dinero. Aunque aquí en Perú estudiar en un colegio del estado es gratis, ya que no hay necesidad de realizar pagos por conepto de enseñanza, sin embargo, los estudiantes deben para por uniforme, útiles escolares, talleres extra curriculares, copias, y otros conceptos. Hace algunos días atrás, la jega de la Sub-Gerencia de Programas Sociales de la Municipalidad de Nuevo Chimbote, Melissa Leming (voluntaria americana), Patricia Romero y yo (Pablo Beltrán) visitamos la casa de Jenny para informarnos y confirmar la real condición de esta familia.

Realmente necesitan ayuda y en este contexto la Municipalidad de Nuevo Chimbote va a colaborar para mejorar la vivienda de la Jenny pero no es suficiente ya que se necesita más apoyo especialmente mano de obra, esteras, palos, plástico, etc. Por otro lado, he visto que también necesitan camas, colchones, frazadas, etc. Si ud. está dispuesto a ayudar a esta humilde familia, puede hacerlo. Sewing Classes For Community Members

On Wednesday August 14th a sewing workshop was opened at facilities of Villa María Methodist Church in Nuevo Chimbote district. This initiative was an effort of the Ladies Ministry of the church whose present leader is Sr. Patricia Romero, who planned to put working sewing machines the congregation had by offering sewing classes for free not only for members of the church but community's. The Nuevo Chimbote Distric Municipality (NCDM) provided a teacher and this way all was ready for classes to start out. The opening day, besides the presence of the teacher and members of the church and community, NCDM Social Programs sub-management head Cecilia Vásquez Quesquén was also present and expressed her satisfaction to support this initiative in favor of community.

On the other hand, the church pastor Elar Tapia expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the municipality for supporting this project. The sewing classes will be offered twice a week and last until December this year existing possibility to set up another sewing workshop next year. For this ceremony, Municipality provided snacks and donated notebooks to each participant.

CLASES DE COSTURA PARA MIEMBROS DE LA COMUNIDAD

El miércoles 14 de agosto se aperturó un taller de costura en las instalaciones de la Iglesia Metodista de Villa María ubicada en el distrito de Nuevo Chimbote. Esta iniciativa fue un esfuerzo del Ministerio de Damas de dicha iglesia cuya actual líder es la hna. Patricia Romero quien planeó poner a trabajar las máquinas de coser con las que contaba la congregación ofreciendo clases de costura gratuitas no sólo a los miembros de la iglesia sino a la comunidad en general. La Municipalidad Distrital de Nuevo Chimbote (MDNC) proveyó una profesora y de este manera todo quedó lista para el inicio de las clases. El día de la inauguración, además de la presencia de la profesora y miembros de la iglesia y la comunidad, también estuvo presente la sub-gerente de Programas Sociales de la MDNC Lic. Cecilia Vásquez Quesquén quien expresó su satisfacción al apoyar esta iniciativa a favor de la comunidad

Por otro lado, el pastor de dicha iglesia Elar Tapia expresó su profundo agradecimiento a la Municipalidad al apoyar este proyecto. Las clases de costura se llevarán a cabo dos veces a la semana y terminarán el mes de diciembre de este año existiendo la posibilidad de organizar otro taller de costura el próximo año. Para esta ceremonia, la Municipalidad proveyó los bocaditos y donó un cuaderno de apuntes a cada asistente.
