Project To Cope Addictions - II

THIS POST IS A continuation of the previous one. Well, the survey* results at schools revealed, for example, that at least 80% of school-age youth have consumed illegal drugs such as acohol, cigarette and pills (anxiolytics); that out of illegal drugs marijuana is the most consumed; that the starting age for drug consumption is 11 years; that the difference in drug consumption between male and female is tight and, believe or not, is tilted to the side of the last ones. *Surveys were applied in 2006 and 2007.

"There is propensity in young people to 'solve' their problems by using drugs", stated Hugo Cueva soon after releasing this local harsh reality. On the other side, Liseth Bazán highlighted a recurring feature in the case of young people who fall into drug consumption: They come from broken homes.

with this diagnosis and the personal experience of former and recovering addicts, the "ERA Project" came into schools to perform preventive talks to students who reacted with great curiosity when they saw some drugs such as marijuana, cocaine, etc, and paid close attention when heard the awful testimony of those who once tried them to become addicted.

Presently, the "ERA Project" is in standby and doesn't continue performing its activities because of the lack of support from local authorities and organizations since there is no awareness about addiction topic. It is worth mentioning that all activities performed by the team members were self-funded and they devoted much of their time to the project.

As parents family and with the responsability to provide for their loved ones, they also had to get employment opportunities which left them very short time for the project, leading it to an inactivity stage waiting for the time it back on track.

PROYECTO PARA HACER FRENTE A LAS ADICCIONES - II

ÉSTE POST es una continuación del anterior. Bien, los resultados de las encuestas* en los colegios revelaron, por ejemplo, que el 80% de los jóvenes en edad escolar han consumido drogas ilegales tales como alcohol, tabaco y pastillas (ansiolíticos); que de las drogas ilegales la de mayor consumo es la marihuana; que los 11 años es la edad de inicio para el consumo de drogas; que la diferencia en el consumo de drogas entre varones y mujeres es estrecha y, aunque usted no lo crea, se inclina hacia el lado de las últimas. *Las encuestas se aplicaron en 2006 y 2007.

"Hay propensión en los jóvenes a 'solucionar' sus problemas consumiendo drogas", señaló Hugo Cueva tras dar a conocer esta cruda realidad local. Por otro lado, Liseth Bazán, subraya una característica que se repite que se repite en el caso de jóvenes que caen en en el consumo de drogas: Provienen de hogares quebrados.

Actualmente, el "Proyecto ERA" se encuentra en un estado de espera, y ya no sigue realizando sus actividades debido a la falta de apoyo de las autoridades y organizaciones locales ya que hay falta de sensibilidad sobre el tema de las adicciones. Vale la pena resaltar que todas las actividades realizadas por el miembros del equipo fueron autofinanciadas y dedicaron una gran parte de su tiempo al proyecto.

Como padres de familia y con la responsabilidad de proveer para sus seres queridos, también tuvieron que conseguir oportunidades de empleo lo cual los dejó con poco tiempo para el proyecto, llevándolo a un estado de inactividad esperando por el tiempo que reinicie sus actividades.
